Vietnam and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in 1971. The Vietnamese people always bear in mind that  Switzerland was among the first western countries to recognize the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and has  rendered warm support and valuable assistance to the Vietnamese people in their hard struggle for national independence as well as for the cause of Doi moi (Renovation) at present.   

The time-honoured  relationship between Vietnam and Switzerland has been  growing from strength-to-strength in all areas. The two countries have maintained regular exchange of high-level visits and concluded many important cooperation agreements which laid a firm legal foundation for further expanding the multifaceted cooperation between two countries. Bilateral trade and investment have been on the steady  increase. Cooperation on education and training has also seen encouraging developments with a growing number of Vietnamese students studying in Switzerland. Vietnam today has become a favorite destination for many Swiss  travelers to discover. 

More than two decades of Doi moi in Vietnam has brought about  important accomplishments. With strong determination to become an industrialized country by 2020, Vietnam is pushing forward the Doi moi process and consistently pursue the foreign policy of openness  and active global integration.

It is our hope that this website would provide readers with useful information about Vietnam, the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Switzerland and the Embassy’s activities with an aim to promote mutual understanding and strengtherning the finely existing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
